Over the weekend I did a lot of thinking about the structure, intention, and rhythm of the piece. I created yet another order and think we are finally back on track. At yesterday’s rehearsal, the dancers and I reconnected with the heart of the work (which I still can’t describe clearly, so I will not talk about it yet), and we focused on three specific transitions from “broken trio”, into to a canon, and finally into a unison with the “tight and fast” movement. We manipulated “tight and fast” adding repetition and clearly defining the tempo and speed of each movement. When the dancers completed the full section I knew that we were onto something. The drive, intensity, and energy of the section is thrilling. I can’t wait until next week to continue to work with this section and its transitions.

Outside of the studio I am working on solidifying our fall rehearsal schedule – which you can watch take shape on our company calender at mvworks.org, our fall update letter, and all of the necessary fundraising events and direct mail pieces. Its hard to believe it is almost September! The fall will include the bulk of the fundraising work and marketing preparation, while spring will be heavily focused on audience development, marketing, and wrapping up the actual piece. It all seems daunting, but we will just have to take it one step at a time.
